It can be wired (to the right switch, and with enough smarts on the users part) to allow for both methods of control from a single switch. It can be wired to a switch allowing the user to decide when to link/delink the 2 batteries, regardless of the running status of the car. the key is turned beyond ACC, towrds OFF), the link is broken. When wired properly, it can link 2 batteries when the car starts and keep them linked for the duration of the runtime of the car. This does none of that and the 'smarts and sensing' begins and ends at the user, you (and me).
